What is Artificial Intelligence?

Artificial Intelligence or AI is an umbrella term for many techniques that allow machines to mimic human intelligence.

When people think they feel and feel what is happening around them, they understand what these circumstances mean and make a decision accordingly, and then act on it.

As with smart devices or artificial intelligence technologies, they are indeed in the early stages of applying these same human behaviors.

What is the difference between Artificial  Intelligence and Machine Learning?

Machine learning is simply a sub-part of the AI system and expresses the machine's ability to think without being externally programmed. How so?

Well, traditional machines are usually programmed through a number of rules on how to behave or operate within a specific context, through a set of if-then-else instructions. However, machine learning technology allows devices to continue to think and evolve based on the data they receive in different circumstances and contexts.

History of Artificial Intelligence

Artificial Intelligence has gone through many stages from its beginnings to the present day, so it is important to have a general idea of the stages of ai development over the years. The most important of these events are summarized below:

  • The first time the word "robot" was mentioned dates back to 1921 when Czech writer Carl Chapek used it in his play "Rossum's Global Robots". The word "robota" is derived from work.
  • Alan Turing was one of the most important influencers in the development of artificial intelligence, publishing a 1951 article entitled Computing Machinery and Intelligence in which he proposed a simulation game that later became known as the Turing Test
  • The birth of artificial intelligence as a real science was in 1956 during a summer workshop called the Dartmouth Research Project on Artificial Intelligence, in which John McCarthy, inventor of lisp programming, used the term "Artificial Intelligence" for the first time. The main objective of this workshop was to find ways for the machine to simulate aspects of human intelligence
  • During the 1960s and 1970s, artificial intelligence researchers began using computers to identify images, translate languages and understand instructions and instructions in human language. The sub-fields of artificial intelligence are emerging in various aspects of life.
  • The big achievement was in 2016 when Google developed alpha go artificial intelligence software that defeated the world champion in the complex Go tablet game. This achievement was a really big step in machine learning because AlphaGo learned the rules of the game and was able to play at an expert level on its own without any previous programming.
  • The development of ai fields and applications continued in later years as well, and its applications branched into working life, we saw the intelligent robot "Sofia" capable of building near-real relationships with humans and used artificial intelligence technologies in mobile phones through help apps such as Google Assistant or Siri and many other aspects that we will talk about later in the article.
  • Today, we cannot say that there is a real presence of what is known as super AI or Super AI in English. But there is no doubt that this science is constantly evolving and will see further development and progress in the future.

Types of Artificial Intelligence

Today, AI is divided into four basic types, much like the Maslow Pyramid of Basic Needs, as the simplest types of Artificial Intelligence can perform only basic functions, while the more advanced species are a fully self-conscious entity and what is going on around it, and very much like human awareness.

These four types are as follows:

  1. Reactive Machines.
  2. Limited Memory.
  3. Theory of Mind.
  4. Self Aware.

Today we are past the first type of stage, and we are about to master and professionalize the second type, but the third and fourth types of artificial intelligence exist only as a theory, and will most likely represent the next stage of the development of artificial intelligence

Let's take a closer look at these four types and what each means:

1-  Reactive Machines

Interactive machines perform only basic tasks, and this type of artificial intelligence is the simplest type ever. Machines that use this type respond to certain inputs with some outputs and their mechanism of action does not include any self-learning process.

We can say that it is the first stage of artificial intelligence, for example, simple facial recognition devices. Or DeepBlue, a computer that defeated the world chess champion.

2-  Limited Memory

In this type, AI can store data, or previous projections, and use them to make better predictions in the future. With limited memory, machine learning technology engineering and construction become more complex.

An example of machines using this type of artificial intelligence is self-driving cars, which store various data on the condition of roads and other vehicles on the road and other factors and make decisions on the route you will take or the specific reaction you will take.

It is worth saying that most of today's AI-based devices use limited memory, including personal assistance applications such as Google Assistance (google intelligence), voice and image recognition software, artificial intelligence chatbot, and more.

3. Theory of Mind

While many machines are using previous types of artificial intelligence, this type is still only a theoretical idea or a project that is still being developed.

We can say that mind theory is the next stage of artificial intelligence systems that scientists are currently working to create and develop. In this type, the machine (thanks to Artificial Intelligence technology) will be able to understand the entities with which it interacts, to know its needs, feelings, principles, and even its thinking process.

To understand the difference between this type and the previous one, imagine that you are driving to an important meeting, but the traffic congestion was suffocating, causing you to lose your temper.

You may shout angrily asking Google Maps to search for a shortcut, but this app won't give you any moral support, like saying, "This is the fastest way we can go, do you want me to call someone to apologize or postpone the meeting for a while?"

Google Maps will continue to show the same results depending on the road reports and data it owns.

But using mind theory technology, this app will be a better accompaniment to you, understanding your feelings, thoughts and helping you feel better, which is now being developed and worked on within the field of artificial emotional intelligence

4-  Self Aware

Finally, in an unknown distant future, humans may finally be able to develop self-conscious artificial intelligence. It is the same entity that we see in science fiction films. This type of artificial intelligence may raise a lot of hopes, but it also raises a lot of concerns. The idea of a self-conscious robot with a special and independent intelligence is a matter of concern, as this means that human beings then have to negotiate with the machine they have made with their own hands, and as a result of these negotiations give way to many assumptions, expectations, and fantasies.

Uses and Areas of Artificial Intelligence

AI applications and areas are expanding to include many aspects of our lives, and each of us has undoubtedly dealt with AI technologies in one way or another during our daily lives.

Here are some examples of the uses of this technology in our lives:

1- Artificial Intelligence in Marketing

Marketing is an effective way to beautify products to attract more customers. We, humans, are really good at beautifying and marketing our products, but what if there is an algorithm (software) or automated that is only manufactured with the aim of marketing?! He's going to do a great job without a doubt.

Let's think together, a few years ago, finding a product on an e-commerce site without knowing its exact name was a real nightmare and an almost impossible task.

But today, once we're looking for a particular product, e-commerce sites will show us all other similar goods, it's as if search engines are reading our ideas, and in a few seconds you can find information and products that you've been taking days and weeks in the past to find.

One of the practical applications important to using artificial intelligence in marketing is what we see on the famous Netflix site.

Do you know why so many people love this site? And they find it very easy to find a movie that's right for them?

The reason is that Netflix uses high-resolution predictive technology, based on the viewer's behavior and reaction to the movies they watch or choose, and then suggests programs that match your previous choices.

2. Artificial Intelligence in Banking

AI banking is growing more rapidly than expected, with many banks already adopting AI-based systems to provide customer support, anomalies detection, and credit card fraud. Like HDFC Bank in India.

HDFC Bank has developed a conversational artificial intelligence robot called EVA (electronic virtual assistant), and since its launch, Eva has handled more than 3 million customer queries, interacted with more than half a million, and had more than a million conversations. Eva can collect information from thousands of sources and provide simple answers in less than half a second!

AI technologies are also used to prevent fraud by tracking the use of bank cards and analyzing bank transaction behavior to identify fraud and fraud attempts, which large companies such as MasterCard do.

3. Artificial Intelligence in Healthcare

Many organizations and medical care centers rely on artificial intelligence to treat patients and save millions of lives. There are many examples:

  • Cambio Healthcare has developed a clinical stroke prevention support system that sends warning alerts when a patient is at risk of a heart attack.
  • Coala Life has also developed a smart digital device that can detect heart disease.
  • Aifloo is developing a system to track the performance of people in nursing homes and home care and help them carry out their activities and routine work.
  • Perhaps the best thing about using AI technologies in healthcare is not having to develop any new drugs, it's just that using existing drugs properly and intelligently saves lives.

4. Artificial Intelligence in Space Discovery

Space missions and discoveries require the analysis of vast amounts of data at all times. Artificial intelligence and machine learning are some of the best ways to handle and process data on this scale.

Astronomers have been able to use artificial intelligence techniques to study and analyze data collected by the Kepler telescope over the years, and have been able to identify and discover galaxy systems, solar systems, and planets thousands and millions of light-years away.

Artificial intelligence applications are also used in probes and spacecraft that roam Mars and discover its secrets.

That is not all, all recent discoveries in this area are the product of the use of modern AI technologies

5- Artificial Intelligence in Education

Although it is still too early to see human-like robots capture the role of a teacher and give lectures and lessons, there are undoubtedly many uses of Artificial Intelligence in education that help students and teachers alike achieve the greatest possible benefit from the learning process, such as:

  • Personalized Learning: Ai technologies are used to customize individuals' learning experience by analyzing their learning patterns, experiences, and past abilities and thereby identifying the appropriate educational materials for them.
  • Help teachers perform certain administrative tasks such as conducting assessments, preparing tests, or managing related logistics.
  • Breaking down geographical barriers by making global classrooms accessible to everyone regardless of their language, whereabouts, or other disabilities, as AI technologies help overcome and overcome these barriers.
